VIECC 2015: More Than Just Comics

PopWrapped stopped by the very first VIECC 2015 last week and geeked out with the cast of Game Of Thrones. Just like anyone in their right mind would do.

Last week PopWrapped hat the great opportunity of visiting Vienna’s very first ComicCon: VIECC 2015! Saturday tickets were sold out weeks before the event took place, even more of an honour that PopWrapped hat the opportunity to be part of it.

According to the official VIECC website, “The two-day pop culture and gaming event (was) produced by Reed Exhibitions Messe Wien in cooperation with ReedPOP, the world’s leading producer of pop culture events including New York Comic Con and the PAX video game shows.”

For me, highlights definitely included getting to talk to Finn Jones about his onesie, which he apparently lost at RingCon 2013. (He ran around in a dinosaur onesie all the time, took it off and then, whoopsie, couldn’t find it anymore. I bet a lot of fun must have been involved in that!)

Another great time I had was the amazing Game Of Thrones Panel, where I got to listen to Finn Jones’ wonderful voice for another hour. I mean, who wouldn’t have wanted to be there, honestly? Jessica Henwick and her co-star Finn Jones talked everything concerning their acting education, the fact that Jon Snow is dead. “He is dead; he got stabbed seven times. There is no way he could’ve survived that!” Spoiler alert? Finn Jones’ SHORT hair. They said it’s not a spoiler for season 6, but can they really fool us? It was fun being asked the question, who liked the short hair better, tbh. Nobody raised their arm or voice. I guess he’ll have to re-grow it then…

THE highlight of Saturday though, has to be the winner of the cosplay competition. Generally all cosplays were incredible, but the most audience-transforming (see what I tried to do here?) was a character from Transformers. The winner gets to go to – and compete in – the Crown Championships of Cosplay in Chicago next year. We’re hoping the best for them!

Another event I was most looking forward to was the panel with Natalia Tena (Game of Thrones and Harry Potter), where she was supposed to talk mostly about her experience in the wizarding world. Unfortunately, the host of the panel wasn’t too caught up with Harry Potter (He said at some point, he read the first two books like that was something he could be proud of!). So they mostly drifted away to talk about Game of Thrones.

I mean, I was a little bit disappointed, because I wanted to talk Hogwarts houses, letters, owls and everything. However, everything was fine, until Natalia Tena (who is cool for living on a boat, I thing) was asked by an attendee, whether she was excited to watch Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. She didn’t know about that and neither did the host! How can one not know about this. My little (or rather giant) HP-heart was broken in many little pieces! I felt terrible!! And I am sure many many other fans’ hearts were shattered as well…

Finally, the best part about VIECC 2015, a real highlight, besides Kit from Knight Rider casually standing in the middle of the hall and a base jumping opportunity from Assassins Creed was THE throne of Game of Thrones!  You could sit on it and get a picture taken for free. Here’s my beautiful face on it.

All in all, I would recommend everyone, who is able to (and lives somewhat close) to come to VIECC 2016 from November 19th – 20th because it’s an incredible experience to be surrounded by like-minded people! The founders of VIECC are planning on making it the biggest comic event in Europe in the future, so you would really be missing out!
