The End Is Near: Downton Abbey Releases Trailer For Final Episode

We’ve spent more than five seasons with the Crawleys, but the time has come for ‘Downton Abbey’ to end, and here’s the trailer for the final episode.

For more than five seasons of Downton Abbey, we have watched the Crawleys ,and their servants go through their lives. There were ups and downs, deaths , war and even a pestilence. But still the great house, Downton Abbey, which in so many ways is the main character of the series, has never lost its glitter. The grand dining room and the kitchen, despite their stark differences, stood as centers of unity for both the family and the people who served them.

So it seemed fitting that the trailer for the last episode will put center stage a simple rendition of “Auld Lang Syne” sang by the Housekeeper, Mrs. Hughes. The song is about raising a glass to friendship and remembering noble deeds, something witnessed by the great house.

We also saw snippets of what is in store for some of our favorite and not-so-favorite characters. Take Thomas for instance. When we first met the footman in the first season , he was a conniving, pompous servant, whose only purpose seemed to be causing mayhem along with the Lady’s maid Mrs. O’Brien. But we have witnessed his vulnerabilities , his sadness, and seeming affection for the children. In the trailer, we see the heir to the title and the house, Master George, beckoning to him “please don’t go”. And then he seems to be saying goodbye in a scene; “I came here as a boy , and leave as a man”, he says.

Putting an end to this story felt bittersweet, but fret not, the series creator Julian Fellowes is open to doing a movie. Let us hope it pushes through, but for now just watch the trailer below.
