If you have been looking for some new blood in the horror genre, or something that could spark mass fear in the hearts of adrenaline seekers, there’s a new movie I would like to inform you about. The 2013 short film Lights Out was roughly a 3 minute short that plays on one of the most common fears among people – a fear of the dark. The original was created by David F. Sandberg, who was additionally created many other short horror film segments with the same actress and unique approaches to old/new scares. Lights Out received some attention with a few higher-ups and a feature length film is now underway, set to be produced by James Wan (who is also responsible for Saw, Insidious, and The Conjuring among countless horror films.)
Lights Out is currently said to be in post-production, with a release date currently set for January 22nd, 2016. Sandberg will direct the full feature adaptation of his original story, and this will mark the directorial debut of the horror lover. The script will be penned by Eric A. Heisserer (Final Destination 5, The Thing, and A Nightmare On Elm Street remake.) and focuses solely on a family reeling from an unnatural occurrence that takes place in the darkness. Lights Out stars Gabriel Bateman (Annabelle), Teresa Palmer (Warm Bodies), and Lotta Losten, the actress from the short film, who will appear in some capacity. Although most of the film has been rumored to have been completed, there has yet to be any visuals offered for Lights Out, so when the time comes for an inevitable trailer – I hope to see glimpses of the simple frights used in Sandberg’s horror segments. I can honestly say I have a good feeling about the film, and I believe it has a concept that could horrify even the bravest horror genre lovers!
