Trailer Debuts For Baz Luhrmann’s Musical Netflix Series ‘The Get Down’

Baz Luhrmann, best know for his iconic work in films like Moulin Rouge! and The Great Gatsby, is bringing his cinematic brilliance into our living rooms with The Get Down.

Baz Luhrmann, best known for his iconic work in the films Moulin Rouge!, Romeo + Juliet, and The Great Gatsby, is bringing his cinematic brilliance into our living rooms.  Known for his unique style of storytelling, along with his poetic scenes and colorful imagery, Baz Luhrmann will be tackling a new era on a new platform.

The Get Down will be a musical series set in the 1970s, highlighting the

lives of teens in the South Bronx and the music that changed and inspired a generation. Check out the trailer:

Netflix exclusive series and movies have become viral hits, with the popularity of great shows like Orange is the New Black  and, more recently, Making a Murderer; it is no surprise that 2016 promises more original content for the streaming service.

The Get Down will continue the trend of uniquely different and inspiring storytelling. In addition to the big name creator of the series, it will also star Jimmy Smits, Herizen

 Guardiola, Jaden Smith, Giancarlo Esposito, and Shameik Moore, among others.

Luhrmann has worked for nearly 10 years developing the story, wanting to show the birthplace of hip-hop inspired by disco and the struggles that brought forth a new age of music. In the trailer, 

we see the rise of artists honing their crafts, including singing, dancing, and even graffiti creation, during the New York art scene in the late ’70s.

The first series will be 13 one-hour episodes, set to debut this year, but no exact date has been released. It is sure to attract all sorts of fans through the power of song, dramatics, and incredible storytelling.
