Netflix Exec Teases ‘Gilmore Girls’ Revival Announcement

Break out the coffee! Netflix Chief Content Officer finally gives confirmation of a deal in the works for a Gilmore Girls revival.

We need some coffee! Rumors have been swirling for months about a possible Gilmore Girls revival at Netflix. The teases have been frequent and torturous from rumors of Amy Sherman-Palladino taking the helm again to reported pictures from the Warner Brothers backlot Stars Hollow sets being spiffed up for filming. We’ve even seen one site reporting a shooting schedule for the revival of February 2 to June 30.

The one thing we haven’t seen, in all these long months of waiting, is a definite confirmation from Netflix or the Palladino camp. But on Sunday, at the Television Critic’s Association Press Tour in Pasadena, we got something very, very close to a confirmation; we got an official acknowledgement that there is, in fact, something in the works at Netflix for Gilmore Girls.

Netflix’s Chief Content Officer, Ted Sarandos, told reporters, “I can’t tell you much about Gilmore Girls. We’re still working on buttoning down everything before our announcements.”

That’s right fans, this is not a drill; Netflix is definitely working on it! Up until now, we’ve only heard the vague reports of “sources confirm” surrounding the possible revival. And for all we knew, those “sources” could have just been wishful thinking on the part of fans working in some capacity at the studio. Executives at Netflix and Warner Brothers have been less than forthcoming about negotiations and the stars of the show have remained equally silent but hopeful.

At the ATX Festival in Austin this Summer, most of the cast gathered for a reunion panel and a revival seemed like a definite possibility. The consensus among the cast and crew seems to be that everyone needs to be willing to do it and Amy Sherman-Palladino has to be the one in charge. Sherman-Palladino said of a possible revival during the panel, “Here’s a good thing: Nobody here hates each other.”

So, Gilmore Girls fans, what are you most excited to see in the revival? Leave a comment and we can chat! To tide you over, check out the full panel from ATX below!
