City of Neon could not be a more apt name for Jake London’s current musical persona. A decade in the music industry led him to develop Ruminator, an EP that was built entirely through crowdfunding and produced by Phil Allen (who has worked with Aerosmith and Adele, to name a couple).
Today, PopWrapped is premiering “Out Of My Head” from that very EP. It’s a vibrant track that’s an intriguing mix of rock, pop, and alternative. It’s infinitely pleasing to the ears, striking the perfect balance of upbeat rhythm and thought-provoking lyrics. Jake’s voice and sound remind me of several rock greats from an era gone by–it has a definite nostalgic vibe–yet he also remains firmly contemporary.
The title for the six-track EP was inspired by the word’s definition: “a reflective thinker characterized by quiet contemplation / muser / ponderer, muller.” That alone is enough to pique one’s curiosity about this upcoming project, and this single only adds to that.
Listen to “Out Of My Head” below.
Pre-order Ruminator, expected later this month, on iTunes right now. Listen to “Electric Love,” the EP’s lead single, on City of Neon’s official SoundCloud.
