Exit poll data collected from the South Carolina primary revealed a disturbing trend amongst supports of Donald Trump; they have racist tendencies.

In the midst of Donald Trump’s strong showing in the polls in South Carolina,  a closer look was paid to those who support him.  Exit polls conducted by Public Policy Polling shed light on how supporters of all of the Republican candidates feel about some very charged issues and Trump supporters in particular displayed some very intolerant attitudes.

41 percent (74 percent of the total responding to the poll) of Trump supporters specified that they would support a temporary ban on Muslims that are not United States citizens entering the country, and 40 percent  also said they would support shutting down mosques in the U.S…  

Clearly the Trump camp of South Carolina needs to brush up on their knowledge of the First Amendment.

The same poll also showed that roughly 30 percent supported banning homosexuals from entering the U.S., a topic that has not been discussed by Trump thus far.  Other mind-boggling results show that 38 percent wish the South won the Civil war, and 70 percent wish the Confederate flag was still allowed to fly at the statehouse.

Other polls have highlighted similarly disturbing data.  A YouGov poll from January 2016 revealed that about a third of Trump supporters thought that the Japanese Internment camps during World War II were a good idea.   20 percent also disagreed with the Emancipation Proclamation.

Those who harbor attitudes of intolerance have  found a rallying point around Donald Trump.  His desire to build a wall along the United States border with Mexico (at Mexico’s expense) and desire to deport undocumented immigrants immediately have resonated among a distinct facet of the American population.  It is as if the Nation is starting to move backwards in terms of race relations and religious freedom, and so much for
