What Time Is It? Time For High School Musical 4!

Time to get your head back in the game High School Musical fans. Disney has announced that they will be adding a fourth movie to the beloved franchise.

What time is it? Game time! What team? Wildcats! Time to get your head back in the game High School Musical fans…

If you’re a fan of the first three High School Musical movies (Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure doesn’t count), the Disney Channel just made an announcement that should make you very happy. A nationwide casting search has just been started to find stars for High School Musical 4!

The newest addition to the High School Musical family will again take place in Albuquerque at East Side High with their adorable Wildcats. This time around; however, there will also be a little more interaction with their rivals, the West Side Knights.

E! Online reports that several of the new characters to be cast are:

Erin, a soccer player who is the only girl on the boys team.

Tamara, a cheerleader looking to rule the school.

Campbell,  Sharpay and Ryan’s handsome cousin.

Nathalie, Erin’s best friend, and…

Derek, a soft-hearted tough guy.

It doesn’t look like basketball is no longer the preferred sport, but it remains true that love and drama will always be the core of High School Musical life.

The newest film will be directed and choreographed by Jeffrey Hornaday (Teen Beach Movie). Screenwriting duties will be shared by  Dan Berendsen (Hannah Montana: The Movie) and Peter Barsocchini, who wrote all three High School Musical movies. Popular choreographer Kenny Ortega is not slated to return for the development of High School Musical 4, which is a decision that may not prove to be too popular.

One of the most successful movie franchises put out by Disney, High School Musicals 1, 2 & 3 provided the launching pad for young Hollywood stars Zac Efron (Troy Bolton), Vanessa Hudgens (Gabriela Montez), Ashley Tisdale (Sharpay Evans), Corbin Bleu (Chad Danforth), Lucas Grabeel (Ryan Evans), and Monique Coleman (Taylor McKessie). Five of the original six actors recently had a mini 10 year reunion on the Disney Channel.

It’s been several years since the High School Musical phenomenon arrived and many of its biggest fans are in their late teens to early 20’s. It remains to be seen if they will be interested in revisiting the dancing and singing halls of East Side High again; however, at the very least, it is an opportunity for Disney to rework a beloved franchise for a new generation.

Are you excited for the next round of High School Musical as I am? I’m not a teen, a twenty, or a thirty-something, but I do love a good musical! Let me know your thoughts down below.
