Marvel Releases New Captain America: Civil War Trailer

Marvel has released a second full trailer for Captain America: Civil War, and we get to see the MCU Spider-Man for the first time! #TeamCap or #TeamIronMan?

It’s a good time to be a fan of superheroes.

Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice might be around the corner, but Marvel is keeping their fans just as pumped with the new release of the second trailer for Captain America: Civil War.

Check out the trailer right here!

A lot goes on in this two-minute trailer for Marvel’s upcoming movie, so some spoilers and speculation ahead as we try to understand what this trailer reveals.

The trailer begins with a voice over from Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans, who sounds slightly resigned and tired, as if he’s had this conversation quite a lot since we’ve last seen him in Age of Ultron. We’re immediately greeted with the sight of Bucky Barnes, played by Sebastian Stan, as the Winter Solider, which could be a flashback — or one of the opening scenes — before Steve goes to try and save his best friend. This glimpse just emphasizes how much Bucky means to Rogers and how he wants to save his best friend, even if that friend is still brainwashed by Hydra.

Another major factor in this film will be Rogers dealing with the repercussions of all the events of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We can see footage of the New York attack in Avengers, Washington D.C. getting impacted by the helicarriers in Captain America: Winter Solider, and the relatively recent destruction of Sokovia from Avengers: Age of Ultron. With this much chaos around the world, this is where we can finally see the divisions for the upcoming war.

We see Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr., who claims to be ready to come to the aid of people in their time of reasonable fear. It still is baffling to hear Iron Man/Tony Stark as the voice for wanting to keep the superheroes in check, but I suppose that makes some indication of his character developing throughout these movies. He has shown, after all, that he is personally scarred by these significant events, especially in Iron Man 3.

Two different parts of Rogers’ life are clashing: his life as Steve who is best friends with Bucky vs. his life as Captain America who is tasked with protecting the world with the Avengers. Rogers is on the hunt for Bucky, and this trailer shows that it won’t be an easy task with his best friend going up against his allies and current friends. It doesn’t help when we might infer that Bucky shot down Rhodes/War Machine or when we hear that Stark says he was wrong about Rogers. Rogers still tries to avoid the fight, but Stark is certain that the war has already begun.

We get glimpses of the two sides of heroes in the middle of the action, but the most important thing is at the very end — where we finally get to see Tom Holland’s big reveal of Spider-Man in the MCU!

Spidey is finally back in the right universe, and he makes one hell of an appearance by grabbing the iconic shield from Cap with only a mere “Hey, everyone” as his greeting. (It’s not like they didn’t know the world has been waiting for this moment or anything.)

With so many little hints in this trailer, Marvel fans have a lot to digest between now and the movie’s release. Whose side are you on? But, more importantly, are you going to be watching this video all day? Because I know I will.

Captain America: Civil War will be released on May 6 in the US.
