As a massive Godzilla fan, I have some slightly sad news to share.
On Tuesday, Legendary and Warner Bros. Pictures announced that there was a slight schedule change for the highly anticipated films that center around Godzilla. The Godzilla sequel originally was slated for June 8, 2018 as its release date but will stomp into theaters nearly 9 months later than expected on March 22, 2019. Beyond Godzilla 2, a co-production had been in the works for the clash of monsters labeled Godzilla vs King Kong, which will be released May 29, 2020. On the positive side, we will get a double dose of Godzilla with slightly over a year between films, even if it means having to wait for the sequel.
At SDCC in 2014, it was announced that negotiations had been reached with Toho, granting both companies the rights to characters from the franchise including King Ghidorah, Mothra, and Rodan to face off against Godzilla, but it is currently unknown if we can expect to see any of them appear in the sequel or if it will be a Monster Island spectacular in the Godzilla vs King Kong film. Regardless of when they appear, I can’t wait to see Godzilla claim his spot of the biggest and toughest creature around in 2019!
What are your thoughts on the delays? Sound off in the comments.
