Executive producer Bryan Singer is teaming up with Fox to bring us a yet-unnamed television show set in the X-Men universe.

This “put pilot” will be the latest in Marvel’s spotlight and focus on two ordinary (read: non-mutant) parents who discover their children have mutant powers.

The project was announced this week by Fox Broadcasting Company’s Entertainment President David Madden. While he could not give us a working title, we do know that the show’s family will be on the run from a “hostile government” and fall in with an underground network of mutants in order to outrun them.

Of course, being an action-adventure series, there will be plenty of mutant combat.

20th Century Television and Marvel Television will team up with 20th Century Fox to bring this comic book adventure to life. When asked about the show, Madden said he was very pleased to have Matt Nix (APB, Burn Notice) writing the pilot episode.

“Developing a Marvel property has been a top priority for the network–and we are so pleased with how Matt Nix has led us into this thrilling universe. There’s comic book adventure, emotional and complicated relationships, and a rich, existing mythology from which to draw. With the brilliant production crew behind this project, it has all the makings of a big, fun and exciting new series.”

Nix will be an Executive Producer on the project alongside Lauren Shuler Donner (X-Men: Apocalypse, X-Men: Days of Future Past), Bryan Singer (X-Men: Apocalypse, X-Men: Days of Future Past), Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past, Fantastic Four), Jeph Loeb (Daredevil, Jessica Jones), and Jim Chory (Daredevil, Jessica Jones). 

20th Century Fox’s Creative Affairs President Jonathan Davis confessed that working on the project “has been a professional dream” for the entire studio team.

“Working with Marvel on a television series for Fox has been a professional dream for our head of development, Michael Thorn, and all of us at the studio. Matt, Lauren, Bryan, Simon, Jeph and Jim are a powerhouse team of creative artists, and we can’t wait to get started on what will easily be one of this development season’s most exciting new projects.”

Generally, a “put pilot” slot practically guarantees the show will get a series order. If it didn’t, the studio would “have to pay a penalty to the studio if the pilot does not air.” While we don’t know all the details yet, it will be exciting to see how this new addition will fit into Marvel’s already established universe.
