Coming back and sounding delicious, Britney Spears is on a mission. Her mission: complete and utter dominance of pop charts with her G-Eazy-assisted new single, “Make Me.”
The moment we’ve all been waiting for has officially arrived. After months of anticipation, pop goddess Britney Spears has graced us with the lead single to her currently untitled ninth studio album, “Make Me.” B-Girl vowed that the new album would see her pushing her musical boundaries a bit, and it’s safe to say that she’s delivered with her breathy, seductive new release…
After kicking off 2013’s Britney Jean with the racing ode to bikini bodies and martinis (also Maseratis, Bugatis, etc.) that is “Work Bitch,” Britney has decided to “Make Me” is the artsy-fartsy, intimate opus that we didn’t know we needed from our “Baby One More Time” hitmaker.
The track sees Britney battling her attraction towards a man, shamelessly going in for the kill, and then laying down a proclamation. Her man has one job: to make her “ooh.”
Over a bouncy, R&B-tinged production, Britney makes her request official. “Make me ooh / like it ain’t a choice for you, like you’ve got a job to do / Just want you to make a move / something sensational” Spears croons over handclaps and atmospheric production before embarking upon a passionate aria on the chorus.
G-Eazy comes in and delivers an equally steamy verse, proclaiming his attraction to the pop princess (who can blame him). “I can tell that you’re a dangerous woman / that means you’re speaking my language c’mon / now follow me let’s go” he raps before taking Britney to her peak.
“Make Me Ooh” truly signifies a sonic shift for Britney Spears, who has played it relatively safe and maintained her status as a dance pop diva on her last three studio albums. Making a move towards a more atmospheric, R&B inspired sound could mean huge things for her upcoming album. Her voice has truly never sounded better or more beguiling, and the chorus is quite literally one of the lushest and most explosive that we’ve heard in recent memory. It’s a mature and incredibly intimate release that is entirely capable of earning the pop goddess a top back atop the charts!
