Legendary Filmmaker Garry Marshall Dies At 81

Legendary filmmaker Garry Marshall, creator of Laverne & Shirley, Mork & Mindy and director of Pretty Woman, has passed away at 81.

Access Hollywood is reporting legendary filmmaker Garry Marshall has passed away at 81. The New York City native’s prolific career spanned more than 50 years in television and film. His creations brought laughter and joy to generations with shows like The Odd Couple and Laverne & Shirley. Marshall also helped launch the career of the late, great Robin Williams, making him a hit on primetime television with the series Mork & Mindy. Marshall’s film credits include directing modern classics like Beaches, Pretty Woman and The Princess Diaries 1& 2. Most recently, he directed the films Valentine’s Day, New Year’s Day, and Mother’s Day.

Among Garry’s many appearances as an actor, was a memorable turn with his sister, director Penny Marshall, as the Devil Husband in the Halloween classic Hocus Pocus. He also guest starred in Two And A Half Men, Monk, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and the current Odd Couple remake.

No matter your age, chances are good you were a fan of one of Garry Marshall’s films or television shows. For many of us, his work was a part of our childhood. His films were always uplifting, sweet, and hopeful —  filled with love and offering the kind of light-hearted escape that only cinema at its best can. He will be sorely missed and always remembered.

Our most heartfelt condolences go out to Garry’s family and friends.
