Despite being one of DC’s most interesting characters, Vixen hasn’t enjoyed the popularity she so richly deserves. This has recently started to change, with CW Seed’s animated Vixen series being released last year, the character guest starring on the live-action Arrow, and a version of the famous model/superhero being teased for the second season of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

Vixen has the unique ability to mimic any animal, in most cases thanks to a totem given to her from her village. She doesn’t necessarily have to be within the same vacinity of the animal in order to draw upon its power. She can shape-shift, but can also use the powers of any particular creature without shapeshifting. 

Before Legends begins its second season, fans of the prolific and fierce character can see her next in the pages of DC Comics Bombshells. The weekly, digital first series is written by the amazing Marguerite Bennett and features “otherworld”versions of many of DC’s female superheroes, including Batwoman, Wonder Woman, Mera, Star Girl and Supergirl in a way you have  never seen them before. The entire series is an amazing read, and has Amanda Waller heading up “The Bombshells”, a group of women carefully put together with the intent of defeating Hitler in World War II. The primary focus is on the characters themselves, with the action serving to reveal or confirm character traits rather than the other way around. It’s a refreshing series, and one that never disappoints. Week after week you will be guaranteed an amazing comic.

In DC Comics Bombshells, Vixen will debut as a “jazzy lounge singer” whose design, as is common with the Bombshells, will be based off of Ant Lucia’s character design and statue. It’s unknown how she will come into contact with the rest of the team, or if she’ll be friend or foe, but however Bennett goes about her introduction, it sure to be a great read.

With Vixen being so prolific outside of comics canon, it does make one wonder if DC is planning her return to cannon comics themselves. While Vixen is always a powerful addition to any team, her last appearance was as a supporting character in the now-cancelled Black Canary series. With the positive direction that most of the Rebirth titles are taking, a solo Vixen title could fit right in.
