Krysten Ritter Backs PETA’s Anti-Sea World Campaign

Jessica Jones’ Krysten Ritter has joined PETA’s anti-SeaWorld fight, posing for their latest campaign poster and lending her voice to the animals.

Behind her prickly alcohol-loving exterior, we all know Marvel’s Jessica Jones has the heart of a superhero – both on and off screen! Jessica Jones‘ Krysten Ritter has joined People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) in their fight against SeaWorld.

Their newest tag-team campaign hopes to “free captive whales from tiny tanks and into sea sanctuaries.”

The campaign’s poster is very powerful, showing Ritter in a black and white swimsuit, banging against a wall of glass. The words “Break Free” appear broken in front of her, with “Help Free the Orcas From SeaWorld” underneath. The poster was shot by underwater photographer Michael Muller.

Many people visit SeaWorld’s various locations on a regular basis, and enjoy seeing orcas, otters, dolphins, and other animals. However, some of these enclosures are too small for the animals, and have adverse effects on the animal’s growth.

“Orcas are meant to swim for 100 miles a day. They would have to swim back and forth 3,100 times in their tank to make up for that exercise,” Ritter says in her interview with PETA.  “They are paired with other orcas who maybe don’t even speak their same language,” she adds on how SeaWorld ignores the whales’ complex communication systems and natural family groups when putting them into captivity. “It would be like you and I trapped in a bathtub and you spoke French and I spoke English. There [would be] no way for us to communicate.”

Ritter is the latest celebrity to join PETA’s fight for animal rights. Everyone has a right to live in an environment where they can thrive, whether or not they happen to have thumbs.

To quote Jessica Jones, “Knowing it’s real means you gotta make a decision. One, keep denying it, or two, do something about it.”

We’ve definitely known about SeaWorld’s practices for a while. The question now is what are we going to do about it?

What would Jessica Jones do? What will you do?
