It might be a little hard to believe, but LeAnn Rimes’ track “Blue” is twenty years old … and no, I’m not winding you up.

As one of the songs that slowly but surely helped set LeAnn on the path to pop stardom, which ultimately came thanks to “How Do I Live” and later “Can’t Fight The Moonlight” from the film Coyote Ugly, “Blue” is likely to go down in history as one of those songs that is deserving of its strong — but sometimes waylaid — reputation.

To mark its 20th anniversary, Irish country-pop rockers The Rising have decided to create their own cover of the track, which you can check out below. You might not think a ‘rock’ band can do ballads, but, trust me, give this a listen and you might find yourself changing your mind!

Championed by the likes of Graham Norton and Gabby Roslin at BBC Radio 2, and after wowing the crowds at this year’s Country 2 Country festival, The Rising are most certainly rising up the ranks in the music world, and deservedly so. With tracks from their album Coming Home earning them a vastly growing fan-base and support slots on tour with the likes of The Shires and Jess and the Bandits, their cover of “Blue” showcases a slightly different side to this group from Northern Ireland — and that’s far from a bad thing.
