Nintendo Releases New Details About The Nintendo Switch

Nintendo president confirms new information about the upcoming device, the Nintendo Switch, including game compatibility, consumer input, and more.

The Nintendo Switch, the upcoming console and handheld device revealed last week, has already stirred up quite a bit of excitement. The new console will allow for more complex games to be played on the go, and has an additional focus on multiplayer gaming. On Wednesday, The Wall Street Journal reported new information from Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima about the Switch.

It has been confirmed that the device will not be a replacement for the 3DS, as was previously speculated by fans. Nintendo will continue production of 3DS games even after the release of the Switch. It will not be compatible with 3DS or Wii U games, but it is still unclear whether it will be region-locked. Since no playable titles have been announced, fans are anxious to know more.

Nintendo has not yet revealed hardware details about the device or its retail price. However, Nintendo intends to consider customer suggestions when deciding on the Switch’s retail price. Nintendo has also hinted that there will be pre-launch consumer testing of the Switch but has yet to give a timeframe on when that will occur. Two million units of the Switch are anticipated to be shipped at the end of the fiscal year, in March.

Fans are excited. There is a lot of speculation about the available colors, besides the gray and black default model. Some fans have already started designing custom skins. A few have taken an imaginative approach by comparing the Switch’s compact design to the face of a puppy, and there is fanart and personal items that have been posted online showing off this cute design.

The response so far remains positive, and fans are hyped to find out more about what the Switch has to offer. The Nintendo Switch is set to launch in March 2017.
