A lot of Americans (and the world) were left devastated when Donald Trump, a billionaire who has managed to offend women and minorities with his statements, was elected as the President of the United States.
His imminent rise to power has sparked protests, but, for all intents and purposes, he was elected legally and democratically, despite losing the popular vote. So, come January, he will take over the Oval Office.
So many of those who are horrified at his eventual presidency are now looking into the future for the next election, and they took to social media to clamor for the popular First Lady, Michelle Obama to run for President.

So how viable is a run for the First Lady? Both Eleanor Roosevelt and, of course, Hillary Clinton have shown that former First Ladies can have a viable political career all on their own. But four years seems to be too short a time for her to gain some of her own political experience, which will be a major point in any primary or general election. That being said, Trump had even less political experience than Michelle, but is he really the template that people would want the First Lady to follow?
Radhika Sanghani of The Telegraph also pointed out that “if she (Michelle Obama) runs in 2020, she’ll be following the exact same pattern as Clinton; from First Lady to candidate. It’s not the most positive thing to tell young women: ‘if you want to be President one day, try marrying one first’ … It would also be seen as the continuation of a dynasty — something Clinton was criticised for. ‘If you want to be President, you need to be a member of our one of the country’s most elite families’ — hardly an inspiring message.”
But, still, she is a Harvard-educated lawyer and quite popular. She married an ordinary and brilliant son of an immigrant and supported him, as they worked to get to the top.
As for experience, eight years may be good enough.
