Ballet Dancers Run Into Unexpected Obstacle During The Nutcracker

This performance of The Nutcracker had us cheering at our computer screens. You have to see what happened on stage during this live show!

If you were asked to name high-intensity team activities, it’s likely that you would first think of sports like football and soccer. But what are the chances you’d think of ballet?

Ballet is often overlooked in the world of team athletics. Unless you take part in a ballet performance, like the seasonally popular The Nutcracker, you aren’t likely to understand the years of musicality conditioning, memorization techniques, and physical training that ballet students must master in order to be successful.

For students in Logrea Dance Academy’s performance of The Nutcracker this week, an unexpected obstacle quickly turned into pure holiday magic, allowing them to demonstrate just how well-trained and skilled they are as a company. During “The Waltz Of The Snowflakes,” the music suddenly cut out, leaving about 20 dancers with an additional six minutes of choreography to perform in silence.

On Facebook, Logrea Dance Academy released the following statement: “Live performances are always exciting and wonderful experiences, but sometimes something very unexpected can happen. On Dec. 17, the music output abruptly, and unexpectedly stopped during the Westchester Ballet Company performance of The Nutcracker. Our young dancers continued to perform with beauty, grace and precision despite the absence of music, while the audience cheered their approval and support. All of us at Logrea Dance Academy are so proud of each and every one of our dancers for their professional and confident performance in this unusual situation.”

Were they able to pull it off? You’ll just have to see for yourself…

Were they singing in their head? Counting beats? Using muscle memory? Reminding themselves via comedic inner monologue not to break character?
