Maybe we’re jumping the gun on this one, guys. Word on the World Wide Web is that the popular Disney spinoff Girl Meets World has been canceled after three seasons on the air. These rumors began after Rider Strong, who plays Shawn Hunter in the spinoff and the original series, Boy Meets World, talked about having directed a few of the Season 3 episodes:
“We finished the third season of Girl Meets World. My brother and I were directing a lot of episodes and I acted in a couple. And the show ended.”
That’s … not a lot to go on. Disney and Girl Meets World showrunners refuse to confirm or deny Strong’s statement, saying “there is no official word as yet.”
As much as I love Shawn Hunter, having created his character and everything, you have to remember that he was wrong a lot.

Whatever happens, it has been a great joy to get to continue this story. If it is over, thank you. If not, we will keep giving our best.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the show will wrap up Season 3’s final episodes in early January, with the final episode “Girl Meets Goodbye” on January 20.
Now, we know what you’re thinking: that title seems pretty definite. But if you have been keeping up with the show, you know there’s a lot going on in the life of Riley Matthews. Maybe Maya and Zeke break up, maybe Farkle and Smackle get into rival summer programs (or colleges), maybe Riley and Lucas figure out they actually aren’t right for each other.
There’s a world of possibilities.
To her credit, Rowan Blanchard (Riley Matthews) hopes the show will continue into Season 4.
“We are hoping for a Season 4, obviously, because we want to continue our story, and I feel like it’s an important story to tell. But as of right now, we just finished [filming] Season 3 and we’re still waiting on the word. But we do have more episodes coming out this year that air into early 2017, so we’re covered for a little bit.”
“Girl Meets Goodbye” will be the show’s season finale, but let’s hope it doesn’t mean we’ll see the end of Matthews, Hart, and Minkus. In fact, the finale will feature some cameo appearances from some Boy Meets World favorites, including William Daniels (Mr. Feeny), Will Friedle (Eric Matthews), and Lee Norris (Minkus).
While the title of the season’s finale is definitely ominous, Disney still has time to make its final decision.
So don’t lose heart, fans! We may still get a Season 4!
