Featuring a soundtrack of original music and stunning performances, STAR follows three talented singers, desperate for a new start and with ambitions of stardom, as they navigate the cut-throat music business on their road to success. We caught up with one of the “stars” of the new series, actor Chad Buchanan, who gave us inside details on STAR and his new film Is That a Gun in Your Pocket?

PopWrapped: Tell us about working on the new FOX series STAR by Lee Daniels. Do you have a memorable moment you can share from filming?

Chad Buchanan: Working with Lee Daniels has been an opportunity that I’ll never forget. Lee’s artistry, commitment and passion for the work and for the truth is contagious and inspiring. It has truly been an experience which I am so very grateful for. The day-to-day work within a village full of talent, kindness, and camaraderie is all I could ask for. It has all been a dream come true.

My most memorable moment filming STAR thus far most definitely was freezing my ass off coming out of the pool on my very first day. The scene is in the pilot. It was early morning late fall in Georgia, and it must had been 45 degrees … And somehow I had to manage walking out of that pool looking relaxed and smooth. I might have tripped once or twice.

PW: Queen Latifah is also involved with the show on camera and behind the scenes. Any memorable moments to share that involve the Queen?

CB: I see Queen around on set every now and then. I think she’s an angel. She’s just like her character in the show, the “wise” one. There’s an incredibly beautiful and poised quality to her.

PW: Your film Is That a Gun in Your Pocket? is currently on the film festival circuit and winning awards. Tell is a little about that project.

CB: I made friends working on the film that I will never forget. I couldn’t stop laughing every time Cloris Leachman was on set. She’s a goofball. And I made life long friends with so many people on that set — shout out to Katherine McNamara and Matt Cooper.
