On Wednesday, January 18, it was announced the ex-couple has finally reached an agreement over the custody of their two-year-old son, Future Zahir Wilburn — also known as Baby Future. The court decided that Baby Future will spend a majority of his time with mom Ciara, 31, but dad Future, 33, will have reasonable access to the child whenever he returns home in Atlanta upon fulfilling his rap career duties.
The “Goodies” singer — who married Seattle Seahawks’ Russell Wilson, 28, last year — is expecting her first child with the NFL Quarterback. They dated for over a year, took a vow of celibacy until marriage, and tied the knot in a romantic wedding at a breathtaking castle in Chesire, England. It almost seems like a fairytale — the complete opposite of her tumultuous relationship with baby daddy Future! While dating the Dirty Sprite rapper, Ciara began noticeably changing her image to blend in with the rap star lifestyle. The singer also featured her ex-beau in the video for her 2013’s provocative love anthem, “Body Party.” Not long after the couple decided to part ways, the drama ensued. In January 2016, Future went on a Twitter rant about Ciara and the issues who was running into when attempting to see his son, writing “This b**h got control problems … I gotta go through lawyers to see baby future … the f***ery for 15k a month.”
One month later, Ciara slapped her ex with a $15 million defamation lawsuit, claiming Future had been speaking negatively of her mothering skills via media outlets. Rumors began to spread that Future was upset because of Ciara’s new relationship with Russell Wilson, as a picture of Mr. Wilson pushing Baby Future in his stroller had recently surfaced. Ciara dropped that lawsuit this month.
After all of this drama, the pair finally seems to be making progress on the road to healthy co-parenting. Let’s hope it can stay this way at least for the next 16 years!
