Finally, some good news in this crazy whirlwind of a week! Country singer Luke Bryan announced via his official Twitter that he will be performing the National Anthem at Super Bowl LI! The game will host rival teams the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons.

Not only is Bryan the first country singer to ever deliver the “Star Spangled Banner,” he will be the first male Super Bowl singer since Billy Joel took to the stage in 2007 (10 years ago). The “That’s My Kinda Night” singer will perform at the NRG Stadium in Houston before the February 5, 2017 game.
Bryan was born the youngest son of a Georgia farming family but later moved to Nashville to pursue his love of music. Since his hit country song “Move” topped the music charts, Bryan’s been making headlines on Billboard‘s airplay charts. He’s also won the CMA’s Entertainer of the Year award in 2014 and 2015.
On top of his Super Bowl debut, Luke Bryan is also scheduled to perform at Mexico’s Crash My Playa festival and will be continuing his Kill the Lights tour.
Other Super Bowl week festivities include other country music favorites like Lady Antebellum and Sam Hunt.
According to CBS Sports, fans are already taking bets on how long Bryan’s National Anthem will be. Each year, “millions around the globe” time the opening performance to see if the Vegas time limit is upheld. Current predictions run between 2 minutes 7 seconds and 2 minutes 15 seconds.
But, before Bryan even takes to the stage, Lady Antebellum and Tyler Farr will kickoff “the official pre-game party at the NRG Center” while Hunt will perform “in a collapsible traveling nightclub.” According to Rolling Stone, Bruno Mars and Taylor Swift will also be performing.
The highly anticipated Super Bowl LI (51) will air Sunday, February 5, 2017 around 6:30pm EST.
