Matthew Lewis Comments On The Popularity Of His “Hot” Transformation

Matthew Lewis is well aware of the popularity that surrounds his transformation over the years. The actor opened up in response to the “Longbottomed” trend.

This past weekend at Universal Orlando Resort’s “A Celebration of Harry Potter,” actors Matthew Lewis, Tom Felton, Jason Isaacs, and Warwick Davis sat down with members of the media to talk all things Potter. During the press conference, Matthew Lewis was asked to comment on the hype and popularity regarding his good looks and transformation from when he was in the first film.

The reporter asked, “In the UK, at least, it seems like every five minutes on Facebook there’s a story that seems to be amazed at how handsome you are now. Do those types of stories annoy you when they keep popping up?”

Jason Isaacs quickly replied for him, saying “[Matt] writes most of them.” And Matthew Lewis played along, too, asking the journalist, “Have you been reading my blog again?” But then he stopped and opened up about his take on the “Started From The Bottom” phenomenon that sweeps over entertainment blog and social media sites.

“I just don’t get it. That’s the real thing. You’re not wrong; it’s quite often on my Twitter and stuff, and it gets brought up. Hey, look, the Internet can be a pretty grim, awful place. When people are writing nice things about you, don’t complain. I’m not going to sit here and sulk and go, ‘Oh, it’s such a nightmare because I’m good looking’ … It’s incredibly flattering; it’s lovely. But honestly, I don’t really get it. I’ve never felt that way; I still don’t feel that way. And I’d definitely want to — I’d much rather focus on work and the professional side of stuff and just get by with that. But again, I can’t be grudge-y at all. I’m not going to sit here and tell you ‘My life is hell because of that’. It’s ridiculous. But I don’t get it; I don’t understand it.”

Tom Felton turned to Lewis after he finished his answer, saying, “I do. I’ll show you a picture of what you looked like when you were 12, versus the rippling mass of muscle” you’ve got now.

You can watch his remarks in the video below, which start at the 01:50 mark:

Matthew Lewis did release a “Started From The Bottom” t-shirt campaign late last year though, and proceeds from each shirt were donated to children’s charities. See Lewis in one of his self-designed shirt’s below:
