PopWrapped had a chance to visit the Sundance Film Festival this year, which meant chatting with celebs such as author and champion race car driver, Justin Peck! Meeting up with him at IndieLounge, PopWrapped TV’s Arthur Marroquin had a chance to learn more about Peck’s upcoming projects.

Peck, who races for LucasOil, talked about the creation of his new book, Bulletproof, and what it was like making the transition from driving to writing. “It started as a legacy for my children, ended up turning into a book I self-published. It’s been an incredible experience,” he said.

The book deals with mental illnesses and disorders. Peck himself struggles with bipolar disorder, having been diagnosed seventeen years ago. The title comes from his experience turning on a gun on himself and having it not go off. From then on, he considered himself bulletproof.

Peck also says racing relates to his mental disorder, as it actually helps him. “My medication is my helmet,” he said, describing how he is able to focus the moment his head is covered and he’s speeding down the roadway. Even though it may be considered by some to be a near death experience, Peck describes the act of racing as something that gives him focus, and it is a positive influence on his life.

He also may or may not have saved the day by rescuing the PopWrapped crew from the wilds of Salt Lake City. He got them through the snow and bad weather to Sundance safely. “I was just trying to show off, man. That’s all it is … everybody has to be safe.”
