LEGO Ninjago Movie Trailer Released

On the Heels of The Lego Batman Movie, Warner Bros. Entertainment has released the first trailer for The Lego Ninjago Movie and PopWrapped’s got first look!

Warner Bros. Pictures and Vertigo Entertainment have released the first official trailer for the upcoming LEGO Ninjago Movie. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on September 22, 2016. Luckily, The LEGO Ninjago Movie will benefit from the recent string of successful animated Lego films such The LEGO Batman Movie, which was released on Friday and is sure to have an outstanding opening weekend, and The LEGO Movie, which released on February 7, 2014 and reportedly grossed $469.2 million globally to date.

The LEGO Ninjago Movie‘s plot is based on the popular toy-line, Lego Ninjago, as well as the television show LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu. The movie features Lloyd the Green Ninja, voiced by Dave Franco, who unites with other Ninjago ninjas, Kai (Michael Peña), Cole (Fred Armisen), Jay (Kumail Nanjiani), and Zane (Zach Woods). The group is led by the elderly Master Wu, who is portrayed by the legendary Jackie Chan.

Throughout the film, the Ninjago warriors team up to fight the evil Lord Garmadon (Justin Theroux) who also happens to be Lloyd’s father. If the trailer is anything to go by, it seems the upcoming film will offer a healthy blend of tongue-in-cheek humor and signature LEGO animation, much like its two predecessors.

Although this film may not have the benefit of mega-franchise backing like DC’s Batman or the cutting-edge animation appeal of The LEGO Movie, the film is likely to be a hit among youngsters who reveled in the Masters of Spinjitzu series as well as Lego fans in general.

The LEGO Ninjago Movie is being directed by Charlie Bean, who also directed the film Tron: Uprising and formally worked as a storyboard artist on popular Cartoon Network shows like Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack, and The Powerpuff Girls. According to a report by The Verge, the film will also star Olivia Munn as a female character named Koko.
