Amal Clooney will never be the type of woman to wear satin robes while watching reality television, eating bonbons. She wants to use her political power and prestige for great, not good.
The human rights lawyer, who is pregnant with twins, is an advocate for ISIS rape and kidnapping survivors. But on International Women’s Day, she visits the United Nations (UN) to urge the organization’s members to do the same.
“I am speaking to you, the Iraqi government, and to you, UN member states, when I ask: Why? Why has nothing been done? Mass graves in Iraq still lie unprotected and unexhumed. Witnesses are fleeing. And there is still not one ISIS militant who has faced trial for international crimes anywhere in the world,” the lawyer states.
Even though she is there to redefine history, people seem to focus more on Clooney’s maternity clothes rather than crimes against humanity.
Le sigh.
The woman is dressed to the nines not to make a fashion statement, but to be respected as an activist, lawyer, and woman. She wants justice for anyone wronged by radical Islam. She could care less about her designer dress.
Clooney may not adorn herself with a costume and cape, but she is still a real life superwoman. She fights crime, but unlike Superwoman, her power can only take her so far. She needs help.
Hopefully, the UN will lend its hand.
“A lack of accountability simply leads to continuing cycles of vengeful violence. So killing ISIS on the battlefield is not enough. We must also kill the idea behind ISIS by exposing its brutality and bringing individual criminals to justice,” Clooney asserts.
The UN is responsible for its inaction. Its members have to act swiftly and efficiently. Otherwise, ISIS will grow and grow, spread and spread, kill and kill.
Like Amal Clooney reiterates, “Don’t let this be another Rwanda, where you regret doing too little, too late. Don’t let ISIS get away with genocide.”
