Uncharted 4: The Lost Legacy Gets Release Date And Price

A release date and price for the the story-mode expansion to Uncharted 4 has been officially announced by developer Naughty Dog. Will you be playing?

According to a recent report by Gamespot, a release date and price has been officially announced for the highly anticipated Uncharted 4 DLC, The Lost Legacy. The all-new one player adventure will be released on August 22, 2017 for $40 via PlayStation Network.

News first broke of The Lost Legacy some time ago, when Uncharted Series developer, Naughty Dog, announced they would be working on a standalone DLC storyline focusing on female supporting characters Chloe Frazier (Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception) and Nadine Ross (Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End).

What fans didn’t expect, however, was a fully fleshed out plot featuring these two women. According to a number of recent sources, The Lost Legacy is rumored to be ten hours long — longer than fellow series titles, Drake’s Fortune and Drake’s Deception, and almost as long as Among Thieves. In fact, the most recent title, A Thief’s End, is the only game that would be significantly longer than the upcoming add-on, which came in at nearly fifteen hours of gameplay.

Naughty Dog has also officially confirmed that The Lost Legacy will not feature main series protagonist Nathan Drake. However, seeing as how most expect A Thief’s End to be Drake’s swan song, that doesn’t come as much of a surprise or disappointment. Fellow treasure hunters Chloe Frazier and Nadine Ross are both fully fleshed out characters in their own right and are sure to be capable of carrying the game.

What might come as a surprise, however, is Naughty Dog’s decision to release this upcoming game as a DLC add-on to Uncharted 4 rather than marketing it as a completely new addition to the franchise, especially considering the steep download price of $40. Most new PlayStation 4 games are sold at a premium of $69.99 already, so it does make one wonder why developers decided against creating a brand-new game in the first place.

Naughty Dog head of communications, Arne Meyer, did shed some light on this question in a recent statement.

“Years ago, when we were asked if we were ever doing a single-player expansion, we always said, ‘Well, we don’t have the self-discipline to do that. If we tried to do that we’d create a full game,” Meyer said. “There’s no way we could constrict and restrain ourselves, and that’s exactly what was happening here. When we were doing story pitches, we were coming up with a game that would be over ten hours long and so we suddenly realized everything we said was true and we couldn’t keep it short.”

Although Meyer’s statement doesn’t explicitly explain the decision to keep The Lost Legacy as a DLC expansion, it does seem to confirm the game’s length. Additionally, rumours circulate that it may be the final game of the Uncharted series, though that has yet to be confirmed.
