The Oldest Person Emma Morano Has Died

Emma Morano was 117 years old when she passed away on Easter of 2017, but her legacy will always be remembered. Read about her poignant story here.

What age will you be when you die?

While the question is morbid, you may think about your death from time to time. The reality is one of the scariest, so why would you focus so much of your energy into your inevitable fate? You just go about your life until tragedy strikes, and Emma Morano’s passing is one hell of a tragedy. The Italian woman was born two years before the 20th century, and she had witnessed more heartache than you could ever imagine. “Her life not only spanned three centuries but also survived an abusive marriage, the loss of her only son, two World Wars and more than 90 Italian governments,” a BBC article states. She was determined to thrive, and not just survive. However, she experienced periods of fight or flight.

“Ms Morano also credited her longevity to her decision, in 1938, to kick out her husband – a year after her baby boy died at just six months old,” the article continues. Her husband was extremely volatile when he returned from WWI, so his burgeoning issues created a nightmarish marriage. She was abused throughout their union, but she eventually left him.

She never walked down an aisle, said her vows, or wore a ring again.

Her healthy decision gave her more life, quite literally. However, she also accredited her 117 years to her diet of “three eggs a day, two of them raw.” Her own doctor was even dumbfounded by her food choices, but she was obviously eating well enough to live for more than a century.

Even though she lived a long lifestyle, she had suffered great loss. She survived her mother, seven brothers and sisters, and her only child. While she boasted of the world’s oldest person alive, her heart still belonged elsewhere. She wanted to be with her family, especially her son. On April 16, 2017, she went home.

She was reunited with her loved ones at last, and on Easter Sunday, too.
