’13 Reasons Why’ Will Have A Second Season

Netlfix’s ground breaking series about teen suicide, 13 Reasons Why, is officially getting a second season!

Netflix’s groundbreaking teen drama, 13 Reasons Why, is getting a second season.

The announcement was made by the pop star and one of the show’s executive producers, Selena Gomez. Posting a video on her Instagram account on Saturday, she wrote “Their story isn’t over. Season 2 of #13ReasonsWhy is coming,”

The video held no hints of what we should expect since it only featured clips of places featured on Season 1. None of the characters appeared on it.

The television series is based on a 2007 novel by Jay Asher and tells the story of Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford). The show focuses on her suicide, the aftermath, and explores how she came to that point via cassette tapes upon which she recorded her story. We also get hints and flashbacks from the memory of Clay Jensen (Dylan Minette), through whose eyes we get to see the story unfold.

The first season has covered the entirety of the book, and Asher has not written a follow up. So we really are in the dark on what form the second season will take.

Asher has said that he fully supports a continuation of the story, even if it is in another medium.

“I’d just like a continuation of all those characters,” he said, “I’m curious as well. What happens to Clay? How do people react to what Alex did at the very end? What’s going to happen to Mr. Porter? I’d thought of a sequel at some point. I’d brainstormed it, but decided I wasn’t going to write it. So, I’d love to see it.”

It’s true; the first season ended with a lot of loose ends. Despite the fact that Hannah’s story is over, the series did feature a lot of complex and meaty characters.

We may get to see the start of a case filed against Bryce Walker (Justin Prentice). I mean, I’m sure a lot of fans of the show would want justice for Hannah and Jessica (Alisha Boe), right? Then there is the constantly bullied Tyler (Devin Druid) and his large collection of guns, which bodes of a darker future for the high school. Then there is the important question: will Alex (Miles Heizer) survive?

So many questions, but we’ll have to wait.

13 Reasons Why is currently streaming on Netlfix.
