It was circa 2011 when I revealed my deepest, darkest secret to my college roommate.
No, I wasn’t a spy for the government. No, “Stars Are Blind” by Paris Hilton wasn’t the Top Most Played song on my iPod.
No. The truth was this: I have a very large, very real, completely unironic crush on Steve Carell. Yes, you read that right. Steve Carell. Michael Scott. That “I love lamp” guy from Anchorman. The 40 year-old virgin. Gru. For years, I have harbored this secret, admitting it to only my closest friends, chalking it up to one of those “Kooky Kara Things.”
You can imagine my surprise, then, and my sheer glee, when I checked my phone this weekend and found a Facebook message from that same college roommate, alerting me that Steve Carell had just debuted a new look, and people were loving it.
Finally, in 2017, I am no longer alone. The Internet has woken up. And I have never felt more vindicated.
What exactly prompted this sudden awareness, you ask? Simply, this:
Steve Carrell is hot and you can’t convince me otherwise pic.twitter.com/0AJ8Ulv5aF

Basically, Carell stepped out the pages of GQ and onto the streets of London, with freshly silvered hair to boot. Many are likening the look to the makeover Ryan Gosling gives his character in Crazy, Stupid, Love, and honestly, they’re not wrong.
Not to let a handsome and dapper man go by unnoticed, the Twitterverse has gone wild:
Hot Steve Carell is your ex boyfriend who is honestly just doing better without you pic.twitter.com/H4vLRAnji6

Honestly take your Goslings and your Zayns Malik and give me 2017 Steve Carell pic.twitter.com/lUWWF2A8Ue

How does the 54-year old actor feel about joining the ranks of resident silver foxes George Clooney and Anderson Cooper? ET’s Carly Steel asked him, and the comedian had the perfect response—because he is perfect, people, thanks for finally noticing: “I am so sick of people looking at me for my physical attributes. It’s just genetic. There’s nothing I can do.” But how do you really feel, Steve? “I’m bursting with pride. That’s very nice.”
So, there you have it, folks. Steve Carell is a total stud. Go forth with this wisdom, and may your lives be forever enriched.
Or, y’know, just go see Despicable Me 3 when it comes out June 30.
