Ahoy, matey! There be changes ahead!
Disney Imagineers will soon be hard at work updating the iconic Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland. Specifically, the well-known “bride auction” sequence is being reworked to feature more of a general market scene in place of the redheaded lady being auctioned off to the highest bidder. In addition to this update at Disneyland, the ride change will also be made to the Pirates attractions at Walt Disney World in Orlando and Disneyland Paris.
Disney Parks spokeswoman Suzi Brown said in a statement, “We believe the time is right to turn the page to a new story in this scene, consistent with the humorous, adventurous spirit of the attraction.”
Pirates Of The Caribbean: A Look at a Classic
Prior to this latest change, the ride had been updated on a number of occasions, including adding animatronics and other aspects from the mega-hit Pirates film series, as well as tweaking a scene that originally involved pirate men going after women.
Since it opened in 1967, the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction has been a fan favorite and one of the most recognizable symbols of the Disney Parks universe. At the Disneyland resort in Anaheim, California, the ride is housed in an area of the park called New Orleans Square, and inside the attraction, guests are treated to an enchanting atmosphere of twinkling lights on the bayou and the soft hum of diners at the adjacent Blue Bayou Restaurant.
Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland was the last attraction that Walt Disney himself oversaw through the design and production process. (And contrary to rumor, Walt’s ashes were not entombed inside.)
While no specific dates have been given for this latest refurbishment, Brown said the change will be made sometime next year. Until then, good luck getting this one out of your head.
