Stars Cover ‘Wannabe’ By The Spice Girls For W Magazine

Stars from Riz Ahmed to Nicole Kidman to Keri Russell and Sanaa Lathan dropped the mic with their interpretations of the Spice Girls’ hit “Wannabe.”

According to Riz Ahmed, it’s zig-a-zig-ahh.

Stars from Ahmed to Nicole Kidman to Keri Russell and Sanaa Lathan dropped the mic with their interpretations of the Spice Girls’ 1996 anthem, “Wannabe,” for W Magazine. The cheeky video is part of the magazine’s “Lyrical Improv” series, and in it, the stars are asked to dramatically reinterpret the song’s lyrics.

Kidman delivers her signature gravitas in her effort and adds a sultry tone to lyrics like “what I really, really want” and “get your act together.” James Franco goes the straight man route, while Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown throws in some inspired dance moves.

In addition to their musical stylings, W Magazine also asked the participating stars to name their favorite Spice Girl. For Ahmed, it’s Mel B: “She did rock it, man. She still does.” The Crown’s Claire Foy likes them all but has a soft spot for Posh: “Oh, all of them collectively. I couldn’t – I think I identified most with, I’d say, Posh.” Kidman shares the love for Victoria Beckham: “Ah, it would have to be Posh, right? She’s got an amazing life. I wore one of her dresses recently, and I was, like, ‘Oh, this is heaven’. It had the whole back out of it.”

The Spice Girls: Is a Reunion in the Works?

The last official reunion of the Spice Girls occurred at the Closing Ceremony for the 2012 Olympics in London. Since then, reunion rumors have swirled around the members of one of the most successful “girl groups” of all time (which included Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell, Melanie Chisholm, Melanie Brown, and Emma Bunton). But with Beckham’s very busy life at the helm of her international fashion brand and Mel C also shying away, it’s unlikely the full group will be back on stage anytime soon.

In the meantime, W Magazine’s stars are stepping in to fill the void. Check out the full “Lyrical Improv” video below:
