‘Four Weddings’ Returns To TLC

TLC is bringing back an old favorite — Four Weddings! But this time, the marriage competition show is getting personal.

An old staple of TLC is returning to the small screen, as Four Weddings will be returning in 2017! However, while the overall premise remains the same—four brides attend each other’s weddings and rate them, with the highest rated winning a honeymoon trip—this new version does have an added twist. While in the original series, the brides didn’t know each other in advance, this new run will have four friends enter the marital competition, meaning things are about to get a lot more personal.

In a statement released from TLC, they said that, “Each episode will feature four brides and shine a light on their friendships with each other — judging their weddings in different categories such as venue, food, originality and dress.”

Four Weddings was originally a British reality TV show broadcast in 2009 on Sky Living, with an American version hitting the airwaves in 2010. While the original British version had the grooms participating in the judging fun, the American version was brides only, with the grooms being the one to present the honeymoon prize to the winning bride. In the history of the American program, only one perfect experience score was ever given in the season 4 episode, “Four Weddings and a Bouncy House”. There are also Australian, Canadian, French, Finnish, and German versions broadcast internationally.

While the show is usually seen as harmless compared to other reality TV shows and their scandals, the show has come under fire in the past for perpetuating class differences, as the more expensive weddings typically earned higher scores. There have also been accusations of racism, as a Pakistani-American wedding was repeatedly referred to as Indian.

The new season is casting now, and you can head over to the TLC website for more information if you are interested in participating!
