Chris Pratt and Anna Faris have announced that they are separating, after eight years of marriage. They have one child together, a five-year-old son Jack.
The news broke last night, when the couple posted similar statements on their social media pages.

The acting couple met while filming the comedy Take Me Home Tonight in 2009. Faris was married at the time, but Pratt told Esquire in 2014 that he knew he was going to marry her the second she told him she’d left her husband.
Pratt often gushed about his marriage with Faris, particularly in his AMA on Reddit in 2015. He described her as a “great wife,” noting that she was “very patient and understanding.” He also pointed out that the two of them had endless similarities, from their childhoods spent in the state of Washington 20 minutes away from each other, to their early careers in horror spoofs and “playing guileless nitwits for laughs.” He even explained that their relationship made him “believe in divine intervention and destiny.”
For Faris’ part, the actresses spoke about her marriage just last month in an interview with People. She specifically addressed the challenges that come with being a part of a celebrity couple, telling the magazine, “I don’t think that’s something, when you’re an actor, that you’re prepared for.”
This separation announcement comes as a complete shock to fans, who immediately flooded Twitter with their stunned reactions.

Pratt, who previously starred in Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2, can next be seen in next summer’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and The Avengers: Infinity War. Faris currently stars in the CBS sitcom Mom and hosts the podcast Anna Faris Is Unqualified, and also recently lent her voice to the animated film The Emoji Movie. She’s set to star in an Overboard remake with Goldie Hawn sometime next year.
