David Letterman Is Heading To Netflix

David Letterman’s new show has a 6-episode order from Netflix, and it will be a mix of interviews and taped pieces.

David Letterman is cutting his retirement short and setting up shop at Netflix.

In a statement announcing his new show, Letterman said, “Here’s what I have learned: If you retire to spend more time with your family, check with your family first.”

The as-yet-untitled show has a six-episode order from Netflix, and the streaming service says it will be a mix of interviews and taped pieces featuring the former late-night host and comedy legend. Each episode will feature one guest and combine “in-the-field segments expressing [Letterman’s] curiosity and humor” and “in-depth conversations with extraordinary people.”

David Letterman at Netflix: Retired no more

Since retiring from the Late Show in 2015, David Letterman hasn’t completely pulled away from the public scene and does interviews from time to time. Just last month, he appeared with Minnesota Senator Al Franken in a Funny or Die web series, “Boiling the Frog,” aimed at sparking discussions about climate change through humor.

Since wrapping up work on his CBS show and stepping back after more than 30 years in TV, Letterman has been vocal about one person in particular he’d like a shot at interviewing: the current president of the United States. “I would just start with a list,” he told the Chicago Tribune earlier this year. “‘You did this. You did that. Don’t you feel stupid for having done that, Don? And who’s this goon Steve Bannon, and why do you want a white supremacist as one of your advisers? Come on, Don, we both know you’re lying. Now, stop it.’”

Whatever his new show’s focus, there’s no doubt David Letterman will bring his famed wit and penchant for silliness to this new project. And hopefully a few Top 10 lists.

Look out for the scruffy white beard streaming on Netflix beginning in 2018.
