A Recap Of The Newest ‘Intervention’ Season

With another season now beginning, set your DVR and record the episodes. You don’t want to miss this ‘Intervention.’

When you need a reality check, watch Intervention.

The show specializes in documenting the hardcore truths of addiction and alcoholism. And people love to watch the alternate universe of needles, drug dealers, and drama, which appears evident through 17 successful seasons. Now two episodes deep, the docu-series ups the ante on its audience’s expectations. However, the show has yet to disappoint them.

The first episode premiered with a young woman named Katherine. Once vivacious, outgoing, and fearless, she soon found herself immersed in the seedy underbelly of drug abuse. Even though her parents raised her in a loving (albeit controlled) environment, her college experiences proved anything but. As she walked back to a dorm from a house party, a man kidnapped and raped her. She never pressed charges, and her mom and dad felt just as helpless as her. Left to her own devices, Katherine turned to drugs, like heroin, for the comfort and safety she desperately needed; her family turned to A&E.

The second episode began last Monday, and another woman, named Tanisha, also suffered. Unlike Katherine’s childhood, her absentee father and addicted mother gave her instability and chaos. However, Tanisha rose above the odds. Her obstacles only motivated her to pursue her dreams, which landed her a career in the music industry; prominent rapper Snoop Dogg hired her as his personal assistant. Not only did she make an enviable living, but she raked in the perks of the lifestyle. Between vacations abroad to concerts, she lived life like a dream. However, when a man shot and killed her fiancé right in front of her, heroin and crack became her true loves. Will an intervention save her life?

As both women embark on their separate journeys, other subjects will follow in their footsteps of relapse, recovery, and rehabilitation.
