Just two months before Stranger Things returns to Netflix for its second season, creators Matt and Ross Duffer have revealed that a third season is already in the works.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock (or stuck in the Upside Down, for that matter), this news probably isn’t too shocking. When the series, bursting with 1980’s nostalgia and supernatural suburban childhood charm, first hit the streaming service last July, it became an almost instant success—the “it” binge of the summer of 2016, making breakout stars out of child actors Millie Bobby Brown, Noah Schnapp, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, and Caleb McLaughlin.
Stranger Things May End After Fourth Season
A lengthy run seems inevitable for a show that’s already garnered so much attention, but the Duffer brothers think they should cap it at four seasons.
“We’re thinking it’ll be a four-season thing and then out,” Ross Duffer told Vulture in a recent interview.
Of course we’d all love for our favorite shows to run forever, but from a narrative perspective, the mention, however casually, of a planned ending is, I think, a very positive thing. Nobody likes when a show overstays its welcome, when the hype takes it over entirely and sucks the life out of it. A fixed conclusion suggests that the writers have an end game, that they’re going somewhere, which means less time for aimless meandering through frustrating subplots just to meet an episode quota. I’ll say it again: endings can be good!
Stranger Things Season Two Premieres This October
But we’re getting ahead of ourselves. While the Duffer brothers have confirmed that a third season is officially confirmed, there’s still season two to get through. And fortunately, we don’t have too much longer to wait.
