It’s a phrase that’s been used a lot the past few weeks, but it’s true: the worst of mother nature tends to bring out the best of human nature. When Hurricane Harvey hit Texas and Hurricane Irma hit Florida almost immediately after, the country, and the world, watched as neighbors and strangers reached out to ease the recovery process that followed, in ways both big and small. Joining the list of good-doers is Frozen star and actual angel Kristen Bell.
Making “Lemonade Out Of Irma” With Kristen Bell
Currently in Florida for her new movie Like Father, Bell became one of the thousands stranded because of Irma, hunkering down at a hotel in Orlando to see the hurricane through. “We didn’t have the option to leave,” the actress said, via Instagram, “so here we are.” She added, “Every person I passed today was assisting someone else—#neighborshelpingneighbors—it was beautiful to see.”
In an effort to make “lemonade out of Irma,” Bell immediately got to work. It was Frozen co-star Josh Gad who probably first alerted the social media-sphere of Bell’s charitable Irma activities. On Instagram, Gad shared a post explaining how Bell “literally saved” his family, who were also stuck in Florida, by getting them a room in the hotel she was staying at.
Bell then visited Meadow Woods Middle School, currently being used as an evacuee shelter, in Orlando. She took to the stage and performed “For the First Time in Forever” from Frozen, telling the crowd, “I hope maybe some of these songs are running through your head the rest of the day and will take your mind off [the hurricane].”
The good deeds don’t stop there: Bell also visited with residents of a senior center who had been evacuated to her hotel, mingling, and even joining them for bingo. Like I said, an actual angel.
