Bette Midler Hates The Idea Of A Hocus Pocus Series

With Hocus Pocus scheduled to return as a TV series, Bette Midler has some strong words about why she’s against the upcoming reinterpretation.

While Halloween may be over for 2017, that doesn’t mean we don’t have plenty of witchy tales to look forward to in the future. It was recently confirmed that the Hocus Pocus remake will not be taking the form of another film, but will instead be hitting the small screen as a TV adaptation. While it would be nice to get the original cast back, even as a cameo appearance, it looks like at least one of the original stars is not on board with this reinterpretation.

“I know it’s cheap. It’s going to be cheap!” said Bette Midler, who played Winifred Sanderson in the original film. In an interview with People Magazine, the actress revealed that she has very little hopes for the TV series, and went on to confirm her disdain this past Monday at the New York Restoration Project’s Hulaween party, where she added, “I’m not sure what they’re going to do with my character. My character is very, very broad and I don’t know who they’re going to find to play that.”

Midler would later go on to say that no amount of money would make her return to the franchise as it is now, with a firm “No, no, no!” with regards to whether she or any of her costars would return in front of the camera for the new series.

While the original stars–Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker—had previously expressed interest in a more straightforward sequel, all three have not been brought back, nor has the original director, Kenny Ortega.

While few details are known about the new Hocus Pocus series, we do know it is slated for release sometime next year, making it likely that it will debut in time for Halloween 2018. Will this be a worthy successor to the classic witchy film? Only time will tell.
