Can We Expect A ‘Sinister’ And ‘Insidious’ Crossover?

Two iconic modern horror franchises are about to meet, as Blumhouse Studios has recently announced that Insidious and Sinister may be crossing over.

With Insidious: The Last Key currently in theaters, studio head Jason Blum recently mentioned the potential crossover in a promotional interview.

“I hope so. I want to. We almost did Insidious and Sinister and I still feel like we might do that so, I think so,” Blum said. “I think we’re going to cross our worlds at some point. I don’t know how yet but we’re gonna try.”

So while there are no dates set in stone just yet, it is interesting to note that it’s a possibility that’s still being considered, though it sounds like it was initially ruled out in the past. Blumhouse’s speciality is low budget horror movies, with Insidious and Sinister being their most successful franchises—the Insidious films have grossed $423.2 million worldwide, while the two Sinister movies made $130.6 million worldwide. Though the Sinister franchise only has two movies under its name, both franchises have a heavy supernatural focus, making them ideal crossover material.

Insidious: The Last Key hit theatres earlier this month, and stars Lin Shaye as a parapsychologist investigating a haunting in her own family home. It made $29,581,355 in its opening weekend in the USA, and currently has a 29% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

As the cross this point, there are obviously no story or casting details to share. You can watch the full interview with CinePOP below for more from Blum himself.
