If you saw the post-credit scene of Captain America: Civil War you would remember that the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) voluntarily went into cryogenic sleep to avoid being used by anyone who knows the mental control words that HYDRA had embedded in his consciousness. Therefore, we expected him to be out of commision for a while, but when the Avengers: Civil War trailer came out there is a scene wherein we saw Bucky striding to battle alongside his best buddy Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), War Machine (Don Cheadle), the Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and the army of Wakanda.
I for one assumed that maybe the threat of Thanos was so great that Cap chose to thaw him even if he runs the risk of a villain taking control of him again. But as it turns out, someone figured out a way to remove the mental conditioning from his mind.
In the first issue of a series of Marvel's Avengers Infinity War comics that was released this week. Fans get to see how Wakanda's top scientist to purge the trigger words from the mind of Bucky a.k.a. The Winter Soldier. And as an added bonus, the scientist who does this is none other than Shuri, the sister of T'challa.
So you mean to tell me that the top scientist in Wakanda is a princess and their King is also a superhero? That is one over-achieving royal family. Anyway, as it turns out the Winter Soldier was placed in a cryogenic sleep so that they could scan his brain and do tests. Shuri wanted to preserve the memory and personality of Bucky while safely removing the control words that were used effectively by Zemo (Daniel Bruhl) in Civil War. She is confident enough to say that she can pull it off since she claims that she is smarter than even Tony Stark. Well, the presence of the Winter Soldier in the trailer does suggest that this is no empty boast.
If you want to read the whole thing, the Avengers Infinity War prequel comics are now available online and in your local comic book stores, the next issue will be released next month.
