The first trailer for Bumblebee dropped a few weeks back, but SDCC is making the hype even stronger. The movie premieres on December 21st and seems to be vibing a more old school Transformers feel.

The biggest change for the Transformers movies coming with Bumblebee is the change in directors. Michael Bay is finished allowing Travis Knight to take over, part of the reason for the vintage feel we’re already getting from what we know so far. Also shared during SDCC, Knight said that Optimus Prime will make an appearance at some point in the film, a great way to tie this solo Bumblebee film to its roots in the Transformers universe.
For this story, the franchise is backing off from the action packed films we’re used to, and going back to the late 80s. Bumblebee isn’t a sports car, but a Beetle, bought by a young girl, Charlie Watson played by Hailee Steinfeld. She learns, as Shia LaBeouf did, that this car is not just something to get you from point A to point B, but an alien robot. Watson has a friend, hopefully to become her sidekick, Memo (Jorge Lendeborg Jr.) who will face this new threat and excitement with her. Check out the trailer and share your thoughts on the new Transformers direction on social media.
