PREMIERE: Katey Brooks releases Spine-Tingling Ballad

With beautiful piano melodies, spine-tingling harmonies, and beautiful vocals, Katey Brooks is running full force into our emotions with her newest release. Her cover of The Waterboy’s “How Long Will I Love You” will have you grabbing tissues and thinking back on personal struggle.

Not only does this song have huge personal meaning for me, I think it’s one of the most beautiful love songs ever written. I love how it manages to speak for so many different shapes and manifestations of love. It feels universal – we all know this depth of feeling in one way or another. Nobody writes about love quite like Mike Scott does, he is pure genius“, Katey shares.

“I recorded this one rainy evening last month, with my wonderful pianist and mix engineer Paul Quinn. I turned up at the studio unsure of what I wanted to do that day but knowing I needed to spill my lungs out onto a microphone. I chose this song as not only does it have huge personal meaning for me, so does the band.” Katey goes on to say. “I first heard it as a cover on the film About Time, and immediately fell in love with it.  Not long after I was introduced to the magic of The Waterboys, and went to see them live in Cambridge last year.  As I stood there listening to the band and Mike Scott’s words I sobbed (throughout most of it – if you know you know!!) I honestly felt like I was having a spiritual experience.  I’ll never forget that night, and how it made me connect to love inside me that I had so long been afraid of and shut out.  The transformative power of music.  If you’re yet to, go and see them, it’s a moment worth living.”

Not stopping there, Katey Brooks just put out an album, “Revolute“, which she self-produced. The album features catchy lyrics, beats, and more inspired by love, loss, and rebirth of one’s self, which everyone can find some inspiration behind. With this album, Brooks set out with the desire to inspire others to love themselves fiercely.

Brooks who grew up in a cult, always found music as an escape. “It was a very chaotic upbringing, full of some pretty colourful and sometimes unsavoury, characters. But when I sang, I felt free and connected. For as long as I can remember, it’s been my way of getting what I need to say out”, she reveals. “When I was 22 my mum got ill and she died. And then not long after that, my lifelong best friend went missing and she also died. That’s definitely had an effect on the course of my life and my writing. I guess I’m lucky that I have songs that I can write, as a means to deal with things”.

“Revolute” and “How Long Will I Love You” are available now.
