With all the big movie releases being pushed to later in the year and even into 2021. this gives me and everyone else a chance to re-watch movies we love and maybe check out the releases we might have missed. Without further ado let’s take it all the way back to 2003, a year full of eventful moments Beyonce released her debut solo album Dangerously In Love, Britney kissed Madonna at the VMAs, Michael Jordan retired from basketball and the biggest movie of the summer was about to be released. I am of course talking about The Lizzie McGuire Movie, fans of the Disney Channel TV series rejoiced as their relatable teen queen was making her way to the big screen. The Lizzie McGuire Movie made $55.5 million worldwide on a budget of $17 million and has made its mark in pop culture and is currently available to stream on Disney+

Lizzie McGuire (Hilary Duff) is about graduate middle school and is struggling in this transitional period in her life, with her best friend Gordo (Adam Lamberg) by her side she feels nothing can go wrong, as she gets ready to go on the trip of a lifetime to Rome. After being forced to give a speech at her graduation Lizzie falls and ruins her own graduation. Despite being embarrassed on an important day in her life Lizzie, Gordo and her graduating class including her enemy Kate Sanders (Ashlie Brillault) all head off to Rome for the best two weeks of their lives before they start high school. After making a wish in Trevi Fountain, Lizzie finds herself greeted by an Italian pop-star named Paolo (Yani Gellman) who confuses her for his ex girlfriend and fellow pop-star Isabella Parigi. After being convinced by Paolo, Lizzie decides to help him present an award at the Italian Music Awards as Isabella and must play sick and miss the rest of the trip with her class to do so.

If you’ve never seen the TV series you can still enjoy this movie but if you have seen the TV series and you are not a fan, then this movie is not for you. 2003 was a simpler time, Hilary Duff was on top of the world with the release of this movie and her debut album Metamorphosis in the same year. Hilary Duff is having the time of her life exploring Rome in this movie and really brings all of the die-hard Lizzie McGuire fans along with her. This movie not only acts as a great movie adaptation from a popular TV show, it also acts as the grand finale of the entire series. It’s great to see all of these characters interacting in an environment outside of the TV show. This film is a lot of fun from start to finish and as a die-hard fan of Lizzie McGuire I have to say “this is what dreams are made of”.

How re-watchable is it?

In terms of great storytelling and being well written The Lizzie McGuire Movie has some corny and questionable dialogue similar to that of the the popular Disney Channel series. There were so many incredible moments that served the fans of the show more than they deserved, it would’ve been nice to see characters like Miranda and Larry Tudgeman go on the adventure to Rome but we got to see other fan favourites like Kate, Lizzie’s little brother Matt and teen heartthrob Ethan Craft. The performance of This is What Dreams Are Made of at the end of the movie has gone down as one of the most re-watched moments of any movie. So, in terms of re-watchability The Lizzie McGuire Movie is fun from start to finish and no matter how many times you watch it you will laugh, smile, feel all of the emotions and sing This is What Dreams Are Made of at the top of your lungs.
