They say husbands and wives can, should and indeed do do a lot together. It’s most certainly true for Daniel Knowles and Jennifer Farmer, AKA The Know. As well as vowing to spend their lives together, they came up with the idea to, rather than head to their respective homes for the holidays – the UK and Texas – stay where they had settled, in LA, and make music together. The collaboration resulted in debut single“143”, released late last year and saw the duo achieve considerable critical acclaim. Now, following a handful of other releases, here in 2020, they’ve unveiled their latest work, the single “Someday Maybe”, the video for which PopWrapped are delighted to premiere.
The single showcases the pairs’ signature sound of shoegaze rock and dream pop, with stunning ethereal vocals and teases what fans can expect when their debut EP Wearetheknow drops on May 18th. Dan detailed the story behind the song saying:
“This started life as a song we wrote as a spec for the TV show, Riverdale. They asked us for 50s girl group style song so we wrote one originally titled “Best Friend’s Baby” inspired by Elvis’ “The Girl of My Best Friend.” The song never ended up being used but we always liked the melody and chord change so we retooled it and used the chords as the basis to write Someday Maybe. Lyrically, it’s about our relationship. It attempts to describe the feeling we both had in the summer of 2009 when we met…the potential you feel sometimes when you meet someone and something is just starting to grow, you don’t know what it is yet or what it could be but everything feels different.”
Jennifer explained how, quoting from an LA Weekly article by Mark Ortega, they came to get the practically legendary “LA Rocker” Howard Mordoh to star in the video.
“It’s a running gag among my friends who work at local venues that if Howard Mordoh is at your show, it means you have the best show on the calendar that night.” I found out he was in his late 60s and a retired scientist who spends all of his time going to shows and dancing, enjoying life. Bands and concertgoers absolutely love him. I tracked him down and sent him a cold message not expecting him to respond but he totally did and we ended up talking on the phone for about an hour. He was lovely. I thought he would have done hundreds of music videos but he said he had never done any and always wanted to and I was determined to be the first one to make that happen and we did! I’m very pleased with the results. It was such a fun day and shoot. There’s even a documentary being made on him and they were there filming behind the scenes.”
