There have been multiple battles brewing on this season of Supergirl. Brainy’s battle with Lex and his moral code, Kara and Lena’s battle for friendship, Lex and Leviathan’s battle for world domination, and Obsidian North’s battle against reality. The season may have ended early due to the current coronavirus pandemic but Supergirl still delivered a very satisfying season finale in “Immortal Kombat”. 

Lex and Leviathan

Lex finally gets what he has wanted all season. He gets to board Leviathan’s ship. Gemma gives Lex a pin to protect him from the radiation shield that guards the ship. However, Lex refuses to give Brainy the pin so that he can safely upload the mortality code that will kill Leviathan. Lex learns that Gemma answers to some higher power and urges Gemma not to let her boss down so they send an assassin to kill Supergirl.

Kara and Lena Make Up

Last week, Lena showed up at Kara’s apartment with a tearful apology. Even though she wasn’t quite ready to forgive Lena, she takes Lena’s tip about Lex and calls her friends together to stop him. Lena offers to make Kara a new anti-Kryptonite suit but they have to get to Luthor Corp. Kara can’t use her powers without being detected by Leviathan so J’onn and M’Gann pull some Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows magic and turn into Supergirl decoys. But before they go, Alex reveals her awesome new vigilante outfit.

At Luthor Corp., Lena and Kara have a few hours to kill before the suit is ready. Kara overhears Alex and Kelly on the phone and learns about William’s disappearance and Eve Tessmacher’s involvement. Lena tries to track down Eve and tries to apologize to Kara again. Kara finally unleashes that Lena hurt her too, manipulating her, stealing, and even resorting to Kryptonite. Kara says there won’t be any absolution today. 

They find Eve’s location in an abandoned warehouse. It’s always an abandoned warehouse. The suit’s not done but Supergirl goes anyway and finds Eve holding William at gunpoint. Eve just wants to protect her mother. Eve spills that Gemma’s plan is to kill everyone in the VR at Obsidian’s Unity Festival Lena and Supergirl try to stop her but not before she shoots William in the shoulder. When William asks where Kara is, Lena assures him Kara is safe. Then of course, Leviathan arrives with their Kryptonite weapons. Kara is vulnerable and the Kryptonite begins to kill her. However, the new suit arrives via drone just in time. Supergirl is back and fighting with Dreamer and M’Gann and she turns Leviathan to dust with a super-clap. Or at least she thinks she does. But Leviathan gets back up and the heroes run away.

Lena tries to apologize to Kara one more time. She acknowledges that she understands Kara’s perspective. After hearing Lena say that and after Lena protected her identity, Kara is ready to accept Lena’s apology. They do still need to stop Lex after all. 

Brainy Comes Through

Ever since Crisis, Brainy has been guiltily working with Lex. He still has a heart and doesn’t want to hurt his friends. Lex tells Brainy to wait to finish the plan until Supergirl and her friends are dead. Yeah, Brainy’s not going to do that. Brainy’s plan is to shrink the gods and bottle them up. Brainy enters Leviathan’s ship despite the radiation shield. It takes ten minutes to upload the code. Brainy begins to suffer radiation poisoning and spits up blood. Brainy successfully bottles Leviathan but it may have cost him his life. Unfortunately, Lex figures out what Brainy is up to when Jemma begins to glitch. Lex gloats that he knew this was Brainy’s plan all along and takes the tube with Leviathan and leaves Brainy to die. Meanwhile, Brainy shows up in Nia’s dreams again and she realizes he’s truly suffering. But can she save him?

With Leviathan gone, it’s time to get everyone out of VR. Supergirl goes into the VR and gives a classic Supergirl hope speech. Everyone is so happy in their own world so Lena makes copies of Supergirl to talk to everyone individually. Eventually, everyone ends their simulations and the bad guys’ plans are foiled. Maybe. In the last few minutes, Gemma turns into a scary lady robot type of creature and Lex hands the tube with the shrunken Leviathan to his mother, Lillian. That can’t be good.
