Regulus Red Talks “Some Gravity” & Goals For 2021

“‘Some Gravity’ talks about that specific feeling of when you’re in love and it feels like gravity may lose your body, making you soar..”

Despite 2020 quite possibly being the most challenging year musicians have ever faced, many have used the lockdowns to focus on improving their own creativity and craft. Regulus Red is one of them. This has been his most prolific year as an artist to date – dropping a string of well-received singles that culminated in the release of his debut EP, Red Prince of The Night. He has racked up over 300,000 Spotify streams and been touted as one to watch in the pop community.

Now, the singer returns with new track “Some Gravity.” It’s a song that has a particularly personal and special meaning as Regulus Red later explains, with its vibrant & retro synth-laden instrumental providing the perfect backdrop for the singer to shine on. PopWrapped caught up with Red to discuss ‘Some Gravity’, his inspirations, and what we can expect from him in 2021.

What made you go with the moniker Regulus Red when it came to your identity as an artist?

Regulus Red means ‘the red prince’. A leader when it comes to love and passion, sex and blood!

What defines who you are as an artist and sets you apart from every other act around today and who has come before?

Every artist is unique and has their own kind of stories. Mine speak of emotions, the raw ones. Love and power. Rebirth and fierceness. I am an actor, a musician and a songwriter and all of these aspects are reflected in my artistry.

Are there any particular bands or artists you’re inspired by and if so, how would you say those inspirations and influences filter through into your own music?

We’ve got so many: Edith Piaf, Lady Gaga, Lorde, MIKA, P!nk are on the top tier. The way they treat lyrics and personal experiences is inspiring and I tend to do the same with my music!

Songs are inspired by an array of moments, thoughts and feelings; so who or what most influences the songs you write and share with the world?

My whole life inspires me, because I always listen to my pain and joy. Feelings never “just” pass me through, yet they stick somehow and it’s my job to turn them into a story, for people to connect with.

Can you elaborate on the story behind your latest track “Some Gravity” and what made you think it was the right choice for release as a single?

‘Some Gravity’ talks about that specific feeling of when you’re in love and it feels like gravity may lose your body, making you soar above ground. I fell in love with Emanuele 2 years ago, surprisingly, on a London night out. I had been alone for a long time. We fell in love on the very first night and we have been together ever since. I really wanted to celebrate him and this relationship the way I know best, writing songs. So, I wrote this song which is coming out during the Christmas period because I believe it matches with the atmosphere that Christmas brings every year: intimacy, warmth, colours. Inspiration wise, I was heavily inspired by Drive‘s Soundtrack and the 80’s. I hope you can relate to it and if not, that you can dream with it.

Is there an EP or album in the works or are you just working a track at a time for now?

I’m going to record my new EP in January, in London. I’ve never stopped one second, creating and recording. And I’m very excited to show you guys what’s next!

How do you feel about social media and to what extent do you believe it has helped and is helping you get your name and music out to fans? Do you think there’s such a thing as being too reliant on social media today?

I think social media is both a blessing and a curse. I mean, everything in life can be regarded as both, right? I believe that if what you have to say matters to someone, having social media or not does not make a big difference. I like it though when it comes to connecting with my fans, easily and often!

The Corona Virus pandemic has seen the world shift in an unprecedented manner. with many industries and industries to struggling to stay afloat. How have you been personally and professionally affected by the virus, and how have you been coping with the change in daily life? Have the lockdowns and such proven to be in any way helpful to you or are you missing life as it used to be?

Lockdowns have improved my creativity flow, I’ve been writing non-stop. Yet the pandemic has had a deep impact on my daily life and future plans, like everyone else. A rise in anxiety socially and economically has put things into a new perspective, but surely it has sparkled in me an even stronger will to perform and meet my fans in person!

Given that this year is a write off, and just a few weeks away from being over, have you started thinking/looking further ahead at all yet? As and when life gets back to some semblance of normality, what’s the one thing you’re most looking forward to doing and professionally, what’s your one key goal for 2021?

Becoming a worldwide superstar, obviously – with a lot of hard work, live gigs, possibly performing all around Europe this summer, and releasing my second EP which will be a package of bops!
