Just when you thought you’ve heard the last Christmas song of 2020, here’s one more to put you in the holiday spirit – just in time for Christmas! The cast of the upcoming new musical fusion show, Rock Me Amadeus, have put together a treat for the eyes and ears with their rockin’ new music video, entitled “A Rockin’ Holiday Medley.” The song is an original mashup of the traditional Christmas classics “Silent Night” and “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen”, along with the iconic 1984 Band Aid benefit single, “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”
“A Rockin’ Holiday Medley” features 11 of the 12 members of the cast of Rock Me Amadeus (Chloe Lowery had to sit this one out due to her previous contract), a musical fusion show slated to open in NYC next summer. Guitar phenom Tony Bruno, who has worked with Rihanna and Enrique Iglesias, arranged this exciting melding of traditional and contemporary holiday songs.
The video features internationally acclaimed vocalists from the worlds of Opera, Broadway, Rock and R&B: Alyson Cambridge, Kia Warren, Victor Ryan Robertson, Toby Rand and Tony Vincent. Bruno adds his electrifying guitar licks, and Irish violinist Máiréad Nesbitt adds her signature dramatic flair on the violin. In addition, Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider, rock drummer Brian Delaney (David Bowie, New York York Dolls, Melissa Ethridge), Bassist and Composer Luis Guzman, Pianist and acclaimed Music Director Henry Aronson add their personal Holiday greetings in the video, which was edited by Simon Wheeldon.
“A Rockin’ Holiday Medley” is one of the series of videos that the RMA cast is rolling out on social media over the next few months to give theatre audiences a taste of Rock Me Amadeus. Co-created and produced by internationally-acclaimed opera soprano Alyson Cambridge and rock guitar virtuoso/composer Tony Bruno, the show blends an all-star cast of rock, pop and classical vocalists and instrumentalists with a full rock band, symphony orchestra and choir.
With an impressive cast and an ambitious repertoire, the producers have an ultimate goal behind the show: to demystify opera and classical music to those not familiar with or even averse to those genres. Cambridge says: “Rock Me Amadeus is the perfect way to make classical music and opera music sexy and cool, and to bring a whole other level of phenomenon to rock music. The fusion of the two is like orgasms for your ears!”
With a pandemic still stifling the global economy, particularly those in the entertainment world that has been crippled with cancelled tours and darkened theatres, it’s heartening to see that artists are still creating new music and shows in spite of it all. Shows like Rock Me Amadeus give us all a hopeful glimpse of our “new normal” lives to come in 2021.
