We all have songs that we feel a deep connection to, or that play a pivotal role in our lives in some form or another. John Torres and Scott Packham, AKA Color Fields, are no different and have begun to share some of those songs with their fans and the world, having recently called on some fellow artist friends to join them on stage at the Acoustic in Bridgeport, Connecticut and filmed the live performances of all the songs from highly acclaimed EP Pendulum, together with several covers. Following the release of the video for “Ships In The Dark”, the duo have now dropped the live performance video for their rendition of the Billie Eilish hit “Everything I Wanted.”
Asked as to why they chose to cover that particular song, Packham explains: “When I first heard the original version – the side-chained, dark piano part and moody vocals had me hooked right away. Looking at our set, I felt like we had a lot of high energy songs and I knew I wanted to have a moment where things broke down to just John and me in a stripped-down way. ‘Everything I Wanted’ fit in perfectly as a nice, intimate, and moody piece that we could really do some fun things with.”
He goes on to add: “Billie Eilish’s voice is delicate and vulnerable and John’s voice does well when getting into that territory also. When arranging the song for the show, I played around with more elaborate and intricate reharmonizations and textural changes, but I felt like some of them lost the feel of the original too much. I wound up finding something that felt different enough to have it feel exciting without losing the vibe of the original we already loved so much.”
The video to the cover was shot by Jordan Anstatt, edited by Torres and features Maxx Spinelli on electric and synth bass and Isaac Monts on drums, and the band have more live video performances planned for release over the coming months.
